Hello, my lovely marshmallows! Guess what? I’m going on vacation today through Wednesday! I can’t tell you where I’m going until I get back from the trip, but I can show you what Alexandra’s bringing! Here’s an AGSM and photo-story about Alexandra’s preparations for the trip.
It’s been a crazy weekend.
I had been feeling really, really, really, tired for about a month, and my stomach had been hurting really bad that week. I had no idea what was going on, and that made me super stressed and anxious. I tried to trust in Him, but my grasp on my Faith was slippery. I needed hope. But more than anything, I just wanted to know what was going on.
On Saturday, I was feeling the worst. My throat hurt, my stomach hurt, I was drinking tons and tons of water…On top of that, I played a basketball game.
(We lost btw) And had an all-apple snack. Here, let’s stuff your face with a ton of carbs! (You might see where this is going…)
We stopped by Smoothie King on the way home
(Yay! More carbs!) and I got this huge smoothie…which, immediately when I got home, I immediately puk–WAIT HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!! T.M.I., PEOPLE, T.M.I.!!
Since we finally had a reason to go to Urgent Care, my mom took me there immediately. Little did I know that God was already working to make everything better, in a way.
We had to wait for a long time, but eventually they called my name. I was super groggy and exhausted the whole time. My heart rate was at 144, and the nurse had a hunch to send us to the ER. I was way exhausted and we all had no idea how urgent the situation was that I wanted to go the next day, but we went to the ER.
Finally, I was taken in the ER-and God was already working a miracle. We were supposed to have a different nurse, but instead we got the head of the nurses, who was really good and immediately, right off the bat, said, “Her blood sugar is really high.”
Blood sugar? High? Immediately I was very stressed. I didn’t quite understand what that meant–but I knew it couldn’t be good.
They proceeded to stick IVs in to my arms (ow!) and ran a few labs. Sure enough, they diagnosed me with Type 1 diabetes.
My blood sugar was over 650, wayyyyyyyy too high, and the doctor explained I was in DKA–diabetic ketone acidosis, and they took me to the ICU immediately. They hooked me up to an IV and hydrated me and gave me some insulin medicine. It was all a huge blur–all I remember is the whole time I was SO HUNGRY AND THIRSTY!
We have had so much wonderful care and support from Texas Children’s–THANK YOU!!! Also, a huge shout-out to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) for the supplies, and all of the amazing and kind people who have prayed for us and brought us meals and treats over the last couple days! Ya’ll are the best! **Winks at BarkleysBlog123**
Now I’m home from the hospital. There’s been some tears, but I know God is working in my family and that He will help me to stay strong.
So, apologies for the little hiatus–Just to let you know that posting may be slow over the next couple of weeks because I am still getting used to all of this craziness! I also have schoolwork to catch up on, a lot of appointments, etc. So, sorry if I don’t post to much for the next few weeks!
I love you all and I pray for each and every one of my amazing followers! Ya’ll are so sweet and the support you’ve given this little blog is so amazing!!
