New Year’s Day | A Lyrical AGPS

{Lyrics by Taylor Swift}

IMG_1997There’s glitter on the floor after the party
IMG_1998.JPGGirls carrying their shoes down in the lobby
IMG_1999.JPGCandle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor
IMG_2001.JPGYou and me from the night before, but

IMG_2002.JPGDon’t read the last page
IMG_2003.JPGBut I stay when you’re lost, and I’m scared
IMG_2012And you’re turning away
I want your midnights
But I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day
IMG_2013.JPG
You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi

IMG_2014.JPGI can tell that it’s gonna be a long roadIMG_2016.JPG
I’ll be there if you’re the toast of the town, babe
Or if you strike out and you’re crawling homeIMG_2017.JPG

Don’t read the last page
But I stay when it’s hard, or it’s wrong
Or we’re making mistakesIMG_2020.JPG
I want your midnights
IMG_2022.JPGBut I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day

Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you
Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you
Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to youIMG_2023.JPG
And I will hold on to you

IMG_2024.JPG

Please don’t ever become a stranger

IMG_2025.JPG
Whose laugh I could IMG_2027.JPGrecognize anywhere
Please don’t ever become a stranger

IMG_2026.JPG
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere

There’s glitter on the floor after the party
Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby
Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor
You and me forevermoreIMG_1997

Don’t read the last page
But I stay when it’s hard, or it’s wrong
Or we’re making mistakes
I want your midnights
But I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day

One of the reasons I love this song so much is how deep it is. It doesn’t literally mean cleaning up bottles, like portrayed in the pictures, but it means that you’re not just in a relationship for the party. You stay afterward and clean things up. You’re here for the long run. Don’t read the last page–you don’t want to know the ending. Because if you already know how it ends, why would you begin it in the first place?

P.S. What do you think of Maryellen’s dress? I made it out of an old infant T-shirt.
